ABOUT US

Registration/Enrollment:

DMS follows state and district guidelines for the enrollment of students. Please click enrollment and registration to find out more.

Attendance:

Each day counts! Studies show that students who miss 2 or more days a month are more likely to fail reading. There are 5 7th/8th grade classes that award Carnegie Units/high school credits. These classes (Cyber Foundations I, Cyber Foundations 2, 8th Grade Math, Visual Arts, MS Studies and W.Geography) all have specific attendance requirements. Failure to meet these requirements results in a 50 No Credit for the class.

Procedures:
Please read the following procedures carefully since they provide for the safety and well-being of all students at DMS.

  • Students may begin arriving at school at 7:00 A.M.
  • Car riders are to be dropped off beginning at 7:00 A.M. in the designated area (West side of Gym; No students are to be dropped off in front of the school or any other area). The car rider line will close at 7:23 A.M. Car riders arriving after the car rider line is closed MUST be checked in by an adult in the front office. Please do not block driveways in the line on Seymour Ave.
  • The first bell to begin school is at 7:20 A.M. and the tardy bell is at 7:23 A.M. (See Tardy Policy)
  • Dismissal begins at 2:29 P.M.
  • Check-in: Any student arriving on campus after 7:23 A.M. is tardy and must be checked in by a parent or guardian. (See Tardy Policy) This does not include bus riders.
  • Check-out: Parents or guardians must come to the office to check students out from school. That person must be listed on the student’s checkout list and must also present proper identification. Any changes to the student’s check out list must be made in person, and changes will not be accepted by telephone. No check outs will be permitted between 2:00 P.M. and 2:29 P.M.
  • If your child is absent for any reason, a written note or doctor’s excuse must be submitted to the office no later than 2 days after your child returns to school or the absence is considered unexcused.

Curriculum Used:

D'Iberville Middle School adheres to and instructs the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. Click MDE Curriculum to view the state standards taught at our school.  These standards are simply instructional grade-level standards/benchmarks by which students will be measured on the end-of-year state assessments.  It is important to note, however, that standards are not curriculum.  D'Iberville Middle School teachers, with the approval of the school principal and through the guidance of our instructional coach, use a variety of curriculum resources to meet the expectations and rigor of the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards.

  • 4th-8th Grade Math classes use Savvas Learning/Pearson Realize and Math Nation (6-8) resources.
  • 4th-8th Grade ELA classes use a variety of state standard aligned resources, from MyView/ MyPerspectives, CommonLit.org, EngageNY, and Ready resources.
  • Science and Social Studies courses utilize McGraw-Hill, EngageNY, STEMscopes, and USATestPrep resources.

Online intervention platforms used at the school include but are not limited to, Lexia Core5/LexiaPower UP, Moby Max, and Edgenuity.

Assessments Used:

Fall and Winter Benchmarks on the nationally normed NWEA assessment to determine student growth over time in comparison to students nationwide.

  • Fall, Winter, and Spring Benchmarks on TE21/Case21 assessments, which determine student proficiency on grade-level standards.

Yearly state tests (MAAP) issued by MDE to determine student proficiency, growth, and school/district accountability.

2024-2025 Harrison County School District Tardy Policy:

The car rider line opens at 6:55 a.m. First period begins at 7:23 a.m. All students are to be in class by this time. Except for late bus arrivals*, students arriving to class after 7:23 a.m. will be counted tardy.

Once the car rider line is closed, students must be checked in the front office by a parent/guardian to receive a check-in slip. Students are not allowed to sign themselves in.

Tardies will also be given for each of the class periods if a student arrives after the tardy bell.

Parents are responsible for making sure students are arriving to school and getting to all classes on time. Excessive tardiness cannot be tolerated. A student who arrives after the scheduled commencement of any class period shall be considered tardy. Each instance of tardiness requires that a written explanation from the student’s parent, parent’s designee or guardian be received no later than the second school day following the school day in which the tardiness occurs. Students’ regular and punctual attendance is necessary for success. Certainly, repeated tardiness may cause students to become discouraged and often cause failure. It is therefore important that parents have their children in school on time every day. Only in unavoidable cases should a student be taken out of school before the end of the day. To ensure a successful school year, the following tardy policy is implemented on a nineweek basis. Harrison County School District Tardy Policy:

1st offense – Verbal Warning
2nd offense – Parent Contact (Verbal or Written)
3rd offense – Parent Contact (social worker, counselor)
4th offense – Parent Contact. Principal discretion of consequences. Some offenses may require notification of outside agencies.

Students who arrive late (tardy) or who are checked out early a total of three (3) times during the school year will not be eligible to receive a perfect attendance at the end of the school year.
